The Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi having a deep awareness of its historical debt but also with decades of experience in the preservation and maintenance of historical objects decided to implement a program for the management of building facilities, newer relics and collections. The project aims to record, document, highlight and display the uninterrupted functional use of the building facilities and their relics.<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe printed books of I.M.M. Vatopediou from 1830 to the present amount to approximately 90,000 documents. A large part of the history of the last two centuries is captured in these books and they are a clear example of the printed book production industry and the great diffusion of knowledge. 1,000 of them are rare and great in terms of material. The digitization and documentation concerns approximately 900 antiquities. I. M. M. Vatopediou also has a rich building complex. The building facilities bear witness to their continuous use over the last two centuries. In these facilities, the old glamor and decoration of the premises are simultaneously captured, but also the functional renovation of some of them to harmonize them with the modern needs of hospitality, preserving, however, all the historical architectural and structural elements of the premises.<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe digitization and 3D visualization of the spaces of the West wing virtually transports the digital visitor and guides him through the old glory, the modern functional use and the inseparable coexistence of both. It is a special and unique characteristic of these buildings to mutate, adapt and serve the different daily needs of each time period.<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe folklore collection of I.M.M. Vatopediou has approximately 20,000 items. These objects reflect everyday life, simple or rich, and the multi-level function of the Monastery in each period of time.<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe object of the project is the creation of a complete Digital Archive which concerns the provision of Digitization, Documentation, Digital Curation services and the creation of a Digital Repository which hosts the entire digitized archive of the West wing. Also, the actions of the project include:<\/span>\r\n

  • the digitization of the folklore collection of the I.M.M of the plain and specifically 50 table clocks<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nFor the implementation of the project, the following actions were carried out: \u2013 Digital Repository and Highlighting Applications<\/span>\r\n

    • Web Portal<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • 3D rendering of West Wing Building – Clocks<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • Virtual Tour with 360\u00b0 Panoramas<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
